To case, or not to case - that is the question. Today's edition of the "iPad Time Warp" is all about the issue of casing the iPads in our school district.
These are the cases purchased from Staples by one of the schools in the district. The prices for this case range from $30-$50. Our school purchased these on sale so I'm assuming it was towards the lower end of that scale. Other schools in the district have been so impressed with these cases that they have requested the SKU # so they could order the same ones.
When all of the new iPad Carts (each with 10 iPads) arrived at the schools they came without cases. Each school had the option to purchase cases. Sometimes the decision to purchase cases does not just rest solely on desire. Is there money in the budget for cases? Where does the money come from?
Some schools have opted not to purchase cases so far. As someone who uses the iPads at every school I must say it is a bit nerve-racking to have students using these naked iPads. So I ask that students not to leave their seats with the iPads and that the devices remain flat on their desk to avoid mishaps. Thus far there have been deep scratches on three separate naked devices - yikes!
Cases need not be as expensive as the ones shown above. The older cart at that school has cases that aren't as flashy (the ones above rotate to rest in portrait and landscape position) but work wonderfully. The older cases were closer to the $10-$20 range and are slimmer in profile so they are a bit easier to fit into the iPad cart.
I'd love to know what cases your school is using. Comment below!
